Students

Volunteering

Volunteering, contributing and giving back to the school community and being a role model to younger students are an important part of being in the St Andrew Sixth Form.

Each Sixth Form student will complete the Volunteering in School Award (VISA) programme.

It not only enables students to gain in confidence and improve their communication and time management skills, it bolsters UCAS personal statements and tutor references for apprenticeships or employment.

VISA

VISA is an AQA-accredited award scheme designed to encourage Sixth Form students to use their skills and strengths helping out and assisting younger students in a broad range of activities in the school environment.

This can be extremely rewarding for the volunteer, but also very beneficial for the students they are working with.

Students need to complete a minimum of ten hours volunteer work in school. Examples include volunteering to:

  • be a prefect
  • help in lower school lessons
  • help at after-school sports clubs
  • read with Year 7 students
  • take advantage of the other opportunities available.

On successful completion of the course, students will be awarded a certificate of competence in the area of 'Volunteering in School' by AQA.
